Balfour Beatty has won a £14.4m contract to build a new emergency department at a London hospital. The contractor will carry out the work at Northwick Park Hospital in Harrow for North West London Hospitals NHS Trust. The building will have a walk-in entrance, waiting area, and external drop off area with direct and level access to the car park. It will be linked to other parts of the hospital by enclosed bridges. There will be offices, seminar rooms and the main plant room on the lower floor. It also has as roof top garden, photo-voltaic cells, a combined heat and power unit, and LED lighting. Balfour Beatty Engineering Services will provide the M&E services installation package including modular services units, which are constructed off site. The firm will use Building Information Modelling techniques on the scheme. The project is expected to complete in April 2014.
