Contractors to launch blacklisting compensation scheme

More than 3,000 construction workers whose names appeared on an industry blacklist will be able to apply for a new compensation scheme if they have a “legitimate claim”, the firms behind the initiative said. Eight construction firms have said today they will create a compensation scheme for blacklisted workers. A spokeswoman for the scheme said: “The scheme will be open to anyone who can demonstrate their name is on the list and who has a legitimate claim.” However she could not yet give details of what would constitute a legitimate claim.

Full list: £30m Post Office framework winners

The Post Office has appointed five firms to its £30m national refurbishment and fit-out framework,Construction News can reveal. The winning bidders are Havelock Europa, Interserve, ISG, Shaylor Group and Styles and Wood. The framework, part of the Crown Transformation Programme, is expected to last two years and is divided into four geographical lots: Northern Ireland, North, Midlands and South-west, and South-east.

Amey scoops £200m Highways Agency east ASC

Amey has been revealed as the winner of a fifth asset support contract, worth £200m, covering the east. Under a five year deal, with options to extend, Amey will carry out maintenance, renewal and improvement services on more than 500 miles of carriageway on major roads around towns and cities such as Milton Keynes, Luton and Stevenage. Construction News revealed in March the contract was delayed from an original start date of last month.

Wates starts work on Wakefield Haribo factory

Wates Construction has started work on a £35m factory for confectionary firm Haribo. The company will build a 30,700 sq m three-storey manufacturing unit and four-storey office facility on in Pioneer Way in Wakefield.
