Expressions of interest are currently being invited by the London Borough of Enfield for a £2.5 million residential development for the construction of 35 to 40 family homes for a scheme referred to as "Academy Street". The Academy Street site is located in the priority regeneration area of Ponders End in the north east of the borough. This all affordable housing scheme will be used to decant tenants and leaseholders from the Alma Estate. Academy Street is a high profile development within the Borough because it will provide the first new council homes in forty years. The new homes will achieve Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4 as a minimum but the Council has aspirations for a small number of homes to achieve Level 5. Karakusevic Carson Architects and Maccreanor Lavington Architects have been appointed to design the scheme and a detailed planning application will be submitted by the end of March, 2013. It is anticipated that a start on site can be achieved in September, 2013 and will take 15 months to complete.
