Plans for a new joint control centre for Berkshire and Oxfordshire's fire service in Calcot near Reading have been given the go-head.
The new control centre, due to go live in April 2014, will be a purpose-built building, including improved security measures. It will replace the existing systems with up-to-date risk information and technology, which will include a new system to enable control operators to indentify the exact geographical location of an incident more quickly and pinpoint the present position of each fire appliance, which will improve emergency response time.
