Planning decision due on operating centre

Network Rail are still waiting for the decision from Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council in connection with their proposals for a new regional rail headquarters facility.

The scheme will sit on approximately 6 acres of land within the Gresley Road triangle site in South View, just north of the Basing View business area.

The design is for a 3 storey, multi-purpose building plus another separate building and 140 metres of external track. There is to be a footbridge over the existing railway line to link the site with Basing View. The total floor space of the scheme to be known as a Railway Operating Centre will amount to 13,600 sq m (146,000 sq ft), and there will be parking for 233 cars.

Alterations are planned to the current access from Gresley Road. The Operating Centre is to be used as both a signalling and control centre, combined with the provision of training, operations and maintenance.

BAM Construction UK Ltd have been awarded the contract and work is anticipated to commence August 2013 and be completed early 2015.
