Margins up as housebuilders hail strong land market and sales growth

Major housebuilders have attributed strong sets of financial results to an attractive land market and rising sale prices.

Bovis Homes and Persimmon reported increases in operating margin of 3.1 and 2.4 percentage points respectively for the year to 31 December 2014.

Balfour Beatty hits £200m IESE mark with latest framework win

Balfour Beatty has won a £21m deal to build the latest phase of Lewisham and Southwark College’s Waterloo Campus.

The contract was won through the iESE framework to which Balfour Beatty was appointed in 2011 as one of eight contractors.

£1.4bn annual maintenance spend won't solve crumbling English schools problem, say experts

Schools in the East of England are in greatest need of repair, according to a survey of the English school estate which revealed that 95 per cent of school buildings require maintenance work.

The Property Data Survey Programme surveyed almost 19,000 schools in England built before 2004, accounting for around 85 per cent of the entire school estate.

Osborne bags £20m for Southampton University halls

Osborne has bagged a £20m contract to build a new 356-bed halls of residence for the University of Southampton.

The new accommodation will replace the university’s old Chamberlain Halls, which was constructed in 1958.

The contractor said the project will help to reduce pressure on the city’s private rented sector.
